The situation

La Boy’s "Build your own custom piece" form asked customers to imagine the result from a sketch. Custom jewellery is a big purchase, and customers wanted to see it first.

Built with

  • three.js
  • Ray tracing (BVH)
  • Shopify

What we built

  • A 3D preview that updates live with every choice on the Shopify form, covering rings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants and earrings.
  • Ray-traced gemstones in a bundle of about 270 KB, light enough for phones.
  • A fallback to the original sketch on any device that can’t run 3D.
  • 181 tested combinations with zero errors.
